X-Ray
X-rays, also called "radiography," produce pictures of the structures inside your body. Sometimes, to make a proper diagnosis, an x-ray is needed to visualize these structures. Generally painless and fast, x-rays are used to examine bones, the chest area (lungs and heart), and the lower and upper gastrointestinal tracts.
Our radiologists and technologists are fully licensed and certified in radiography (x-ray) and fluoroscopy. HVRA is also accredited by the American College of Radiology for radiography and fluoroscopy.
HVRA offers x-rays on a walk-in basis, however we suggest that you call ahead. Your x-ray will take up to 30 minutes to complete.
The radiation used in an x-ray is given in a fraction of a second, making it extremely safe. While x-rays are very safe, our technicians will drape an apron over parts of your body that do not need to be exposed to the radiation (when applicable). This limits your exposure to the minimum amount required to perform your examination.
Depending on the area to be x-rayed, you may be asked to hold your breath. You will be positioned to best demonstrate the area being examined.
When the x-rays are completed, you will be asked to wait until the technologist checks the images for adequate exposure and motion.
There is no required advance preparation for walk-in x-rays, however you must have your prescription within 30 days of your exam. Women should always inform their doctor or x-ray technologist if there is any possibility that they are pregnant.
We will provide your x-ray results to your doctor within 24 to 48 hours of your exam. You should consult your doctor directly to review your results.
X-Ray is offered at our Danbury, Southbury, New Milford and Ridgefield locations.
